Rice: the promising path for Brazilian exports

Rice, a cereal that is so present in the daily lives of Brazilians, is also widely consumed in all regions of the world, especially in Latin America, and in the Asian and African continents. In addition, the grain is also considered by the FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) as one of the most important foods for human nutrition in the world.

High relevance of Brazil in the international market.

In June 2020,  according to data exposed by the newspaper Agro em Dia, Brazilian rice exports grew more than 1000% compared to the same period in 2019, causing the grain trade balance to reach the largest surplus in history, according to Abiarroz (Brazilian Association of the Rice Industry) and with Sindarroz-RS (Rio Grande do Sul Rice Industry Union). In terms of value, the increase was also significant, accounting, according to Comex Stat, to US$108,834,933.00 in the first half of 2020, representing an increase of more than 200% compared to the same period of the previous year. This sudden increase can be explained by many factors, such as the rise of the Dollar and the decrease in rice exports by countries like India and China. However, as the executive director of Sindarroz-RS points out, the importance of Brazil in the international market for this grain is not only temporary, as there is a trend towards loyalty in the markets that receive Brazilian rice, which is of high quality.

Emergence of new markets for Brazilian rice.

According to the OEC (Observatory of Economic Complexity), among the main buyers of Brazilian rice already consolidated, Venezuela, Senegal, Switzerland, Peru, Cuba, Gambia, and others stand out. Furthermore, according to data from the Ministry of Economy, among the countries that most bought the cereal from Brazil during the 2020 high, it is possible to observe many of those buyers listed above. However, it also observed that year a sudden increase in rice exports to countries that once were not notable buyers such as frica South and the United States, which may culminate in a consolidation of new markets for rice Brazil.

The importance of the performance of an international consultancy.

International opportunities for Brazilian rice are expressive and tend to prosper in the coming years, so the performance of a consultancy that provides essential information for the insertion of rice in the foreign market is essential for the producer to expand its borders to regions that they prefer their specific type of rice, in addition to the potential for its disposal, providing greater benefits.
