Flowers: exporting history and beauty

Flowers have fascinated men since the dawn of humanity. The oldest account we have of their cultivation dates back to 5000 BC in Mesopotamia and ever since they have enchanted the world with their beauty. Over the centuries they have been used for many different purposes, such as demonstrating power and wealth or swearing eternal love. This demonstrates that regardless of the season or their use, flowers are an important symbol of people's lives.

Increase in the number of product exports in recent years

In addition to their importance in everyday life, flowers play a huge role in the world economy. Brazil, which is among the 15 largest flower producers in the world, handled 9,570 billion reais in 2020. In the first quarter of 2021 alone, US$2.3 million of the product were exported, which means an increase of 92% over the same period last year. Contrary to the retraction trend of several sectors of the economy, the Brazilian Institute of Floriculture projected a turnover 5% higher in 2020 compared to 2019. In reality, the increase achieved was 10%.

Highly requested item in the international market

According to the website TradeMap, the main importers of Brazilian flowers are the Netherlands (49.3%), the US (34.2%) and the big news that joined the list in 2020 is the United Kingdom (16, two%). Thus, the international market shows itself as an important direction for local production, mainly from São Paulo, which is the largest producing region in the country and has large hubs such as Holambra and Atibaia.

The importance of an international consultancy

Due to the undeniable importance that the international market has in the sector, it is essential that all those who wish to improve their business aim at the internationalization of their product. For that, the help of an international consulting company that can facilitate the insertion of the producer in the international market is necessary. For this reason there is Prisma, which through strategic services such as market identification, list of buyers and suppliers, can help in the success of the internationalization process.
