Because it is still considered by many Brazilians as a medicine, honey is now consumed in smaller amounts nationwide. This factor is the main impulse for several companies in the sector to export their product. In 2020, the international market was receptive to these companies, since, through data collected by the newspaper Agro em Dia, it was possible to identify a growth, in value, of 39.6% in exports of honey and beeswax between January and July compared to the same period of 2019. Thus, it is noticeable that, even in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, foreign demand for Brazilian honey was practically unaffected.

Amid the growth of Brazilian exports, honey transactions have stood out, as it has several consumers around the world. Based on the study carried out by ABEMEL (Brazilian Association of Honey Exporters) on international sales in the first half of 2020, the condition of the United States as the largest importer is remarkable, representing almost 80% of imports of this Brazilian product. Furthermore, Brazil also finds its doors open for its honey in the European market, mainly in Germany.

Therefore, exports have been a great opportunity for Brazilian producers to diversify their customer base and explore new markets. However, the task of selling products in foreign countries requires certain knowledge of strategic planning and market analysis, the work of a consultancy, which will make this process faster and more secure.
