The space for Brazilian wine in the international market
The wine market has always been in high demand. A drink that is somewhat basic, made from the fermentation of the most diverse types of grapes and that encompasses all tastes and budgets, from the most expensive to those in the 20 reais range, conquered the palate and the table of thousands. Thus, the wine gained notoriety, and that produced in Brazil has gained more and more international recognition due to its quality and uniqueness.
In Brazil, wine was introduced with the colonization of the country. Currently, after many years, the drink already has a consolidated production, with emphasis on Rio Grande do Sul, which is the biggest exporter of the drink, while the State of São Paulo is the biggest importer and consumer, according to DataViva. Data released by Wine Intelligence's Brazil Landcapes 2017 show that the consumer market in Brazil went from 22 million to 30, demonstrating a very remarkable and considerable increase for the sector.
Brazilian wines abroad
The Brazilian Wine Institute (Ibravin), which monitors the sector's development every year, published a study in which it found that Brazilian wine exports grew 44% in value in the first quarter of 2018. Only between the first three months of the year over 1 million dollars were sold, with a total of 553,210 liters exported.
These numbers represent an increase of 44.3% in marketed value and 48.7% in volume compared to January and March 2017. In this way, Brazil has established itself as the fifth largest producer of the drink in the Southern Hemisphere, but , in addition, one of the fastest growing markets.
The main markets to which Brazilian wines were exported are Paraguay, Chile, the United States, Singapore and the United Kingdom, in addition to 26 other destinations. According to Dirceu Stottá, president of Ibravin, Brazil has a promising future - "We are exporting to highly competitive countries in the international market, which receive wines from all over the world and we are, little by little, expanding our space". Much of the growth and development of the market is linked to the Wines of Brasil project - a partnership between the Instituto Brasileiro do Vinho and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) - 90% of the national wine exported comes from companies that are part of the project.

Internationally, according to a study carried out by the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine), countries on the European continent stand out in terms of exports. Spain, Italy and France together export more than half of all wine consumed in the world. With regard to per capita consumption, Portugal leads the ranking, with a consumption of 54 liters per year per inhabitant. In general consumption of the drink, the United States is in first place with 3.11 billion liters per year. Thus, throughout the world, Italy is the country that produces the most, Spain the one that sells the most and the United States the ones that drink the most.
